INTERNAL SUNSCREEN

Image
While many of you over the next few weeks are trading in your skis in Vermont and Colorado for sand in St. Barth's and Turks, I find it very necessary to review sunscreen and sun protection. The video I attached makes me laugh, but it is SO genius at the same time. I couldn't do a better demonstration on cell protection and nutrients than this guy. If the Twilight series hasn't glamorized being pasty white, then the media has certainly turned us into sun-fearing consumers. It's important to first make one thing very clear: THE SUN IS GOOD FOR YOU!!! You need the sun to manufacture Vitamin D in your body in order to have a properly functioning immune system. Sadly the FACT is most of us are D deficient. There is a LOT of misinformation about the sun, sun damage and sunscreen circulating around out there. I could write a book on this topic alone, but instead I'm going to teach you about a nutrient called Astaxathin. I first discovered astaxanthin while doing research ...

HOW TO APPEAR YOUNGER IN 10 SECONDS OR LESS

Image
I know I've been a very bad blogger. This is the first time I've skipped a month since I began Tuesday's Ultra Beauty Tips. The good news there is a VERY good reason why. I am in the process of launching Liquid Gold Cell Quench. Right now you can purchase the 10ml bottles at www.msapothecary.com Soon it will be available everywhere and I promise you won't be able to get enough of it!!! In the meantime how can you look younger in under 10 seconds? Blush! It's one of those things I can't go without or people think that I look tired and old. The brighter the better while still making sure you match up with your skin tone. Placing the blush at the tops of your cheeks is also very important. Those apples drop as we age so we want to make sure we hit near the tops of the cheek bones. Cream versus powder blush is better. It makes the skin appear dewy and fresh versus old and dry. I still sadly use my mother's old technique of using my lipstick as blush. Whatever y...

IS YOUR SLEEP POSITION AGING YOU?

Image
by mary schook This week's tuesday tip was inspired by Opie, the dog of one of my clients. Opie made me realize I should discuss asymmetry in faces that occur in adults as we age. Opie sleeps in one position on one side of his face for about 6 hours at a time each day. Like Opie I usually end up sleeping on the left side of my face. I used to sleep only on my back until about 8 years ago. When I slept on my back my face was very symmetrical. The left side of my face is much flatter and even a bit droopier than the right side of my face now that I end up sleeping on my left side. There are several reasons why this happens. The first is poor blood supply. Our blood carries all of the oxygen, nutrients, and white blood cells to each and every cell. When we put pressure on our faces the blood supply is restricted and the nutrients and goodies do not get to the cells as they should, which can compromise the function of the cell. This is why I can usually tell what side of the bed people...
