JUICING

Image
Last week I created a post about juicing because bodies under stress have a hard time absorbing nutrients or digesting. There were a lot of questions that warranted a more detailed explanation about juicing. The idea of juicing is not novel. American Fitness expert Jack LaLanne preached that up until his death. Daily juicing increases the chance for the body to absorb the nutrients it may not have gotten through normal digestion. It should not replace eating fruits and vegetables because you still need the soluble fiber. It should accompany your diet ideally first thing in the morning to wake up your digestive system and optimize absorption. Experts are saying that juicing can actually promote insulin resistance. When you juice you take out all of the fiber in the food. What is left is the fruit sugar that gets quickly absorbed by the body, which spikes the insulin and gets converted into fat! I guess the best way to avoid this is to stick with more vegetables and less fruit juices. Fi...

EATING FOR STRESS

Image
LOOKING AT STRESS REALISTICALLY I've spent enough time in practice now to know I would be fooling myself to think that I could ask people to change their lifestyles. Generally most desired changes are brief or of the moment. That's why you see smokers still smoke even after their finger has been amputated. It's hard to beat addictions unless something becomes a lifestyle or a replacement habit for something else. It's actually easier to ask someone to add something to their lifestyle versus change it, which is what I am trying to achieve with today's post. ANATOMY OF STRESS There is one extremely easy way to survive stress so it doesn't take a toll on your face and body, but let's first visit WHY stress can effect how we age and our health. In a nutshell stress begins to shut the body's systems down. If you ever watched Star Trek, I liken it to when Captain Kirk would shut down the ship's main system to raise the force fields of the shuttle Enterpris...

VALENTINE'S DAY TIPS FROM THE SEXPERTS!

HISTORY LESSON You may be a bit bah humbug when it comes to Valentine's day, but do you really know how the day began before it became a Hallmark holiday? For this Tuesday Tip I called upon sexual healthcare expert Nina Helms of Sheaftercare to give us a couple of personal care tips whether you're single or not. FOR A QUICK GLOW 'Smooth a touch of silicone based lubricant on to your decoltage, exposed shoulders or legs. It will offer an alluring glow and light sheen that just begs for your skin to be touched. Makes skin shine and super soft!' states Helms. OR FOOT/HAND MOISTURIZER IN A PINCH 'Take half a squeezed lemon or orange and rub your hands and feet with the rind and flesh. It provides an all natural oil to moisturize and has disinfectant and exfoliating properties.' I think they both sound fantastic Nina! Lemons have a low pH which helps to kill nasty bacteria naturally.

EXTREME BEAUTY TREATMENTS

Image
by mary schook How extreme are you willing to go for beauty? This Tuesday I decided to lighten things up a bit by featuring Julia Roberts' beauty scene in the movie Mirror Mirror. It may seem a bit unreal, but in fact what the movie did was combine some of the extreme anti-aging treatments that spas and medi-spas are offering on the market from bird poo facials, snail facials , snake massages , "bee-stung" lips, scorpion venom therapy , maggot therapy , and a few more. Click any of the highlighted treatments to discover more about them. Years ago I did a story on Bird Poo facials aka Geisha facial . The only difference is the Asians dry out the poo and subject it to a UV sterilizer. It's used in Asia as a lightening treatment. Supposedly it's a favorite among celebs such as Tom Cruise and Victoria Beckham. Then again what isn't Victoria doing these days. I've actually personally experienced the fish manicure/pedicures before at a tradeshow years back. The...
