KEEPING BALANCE

Image
I was going to save this post for my future book, but after visiting with some customers over the last week I figured it might be nice to talk about balance and harmony at this time before the holidays add more stress (in turn aging us). We are a very reactive society. We wait for a problem to happen and then approach it in an all or nothing manner. I ate a lot of crap so now I'm going on a juice cleanse so I can eat more crap and wonder why I feel and look like crap! This is not balance! This is compulsive, reactive behavior that gets really tough to cope with or hide after 40. Beauty and health is about Balance. Balance is not really taught in our culture and you're not necessarily going to find it on a yoga mat or in a Buddhist temple. Instead of eliminating, depriving or starving we should look into the art of cultivating the balance of our bad habits.  For instance when someone eats a lot of sugar they cause a process called glycation . Glycation is where the sugar breaks ...

THE BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DRY SKIN vs DEHYDRATED SKIN

Photo courtesy ndhealthfacts.org If you read back through some of my earlier posts, I don't really believe in a skin type. Your skin is generally a reflection of what's going on inside the body and you have to figure out how to balance out the problem at its source. I didn't invent this notion. The Chinese have believed this for 1000's of years. There is HUGE confusion between dry skin and dehydrated skin. Dry skin is a lack of oils or essential fats. Each cell has a lipid or fat protection that becomes compromised if there is a lack of essential oils or fats. Adding oil to your skin is not going to fix this problem. Dry skin is generally an internal problem. Lack of oils can effect your hormones, organs and just about any tissue in the body. Eating a diet rich in essential fats and staying away from sugars and other toxic garbage that break down the cell will insure creamy, dreamy skin and a well oiled machine (your body and mind) for years to come. I personally take N...

Photo courtesy of http://blog.selfrelianceoutfitters.com/12-health-benefits-of-honey/ BEES ARE AMAZING Bees are quite valuable when it comes to beauty and health. They are amazing little creatures that do so much for us in their short, 2 month lifespan. First of all they create are really cool byproduct called honey can last thousands of years without ever going bad.  Archeologists found this out when they opened old Egyptian tombs. Bee pollen, another byproduct of the bees is so chemically complex that scientists are still unable to duplicate it, yet it apparently contains every vitamin or nutrient needed for us to survive! Bee venom has even been used in other countries to help prevent arthritis (apparently no beekeeper has arthritis). You can read more about it all HERE.  And how about those cool hexagons of wax? We used them as chewing gum as a kid. HYDRATING HONEY MASK A wonderful winter mask my clients do when they run around the house is a simple hour honey mask o...

THE #1 SOLUTION TO KATE MIDDLETON'S MORNING SICKNESS

More than a decade ago I began to delve into water research to better understand why I had a hard time drinking Evian water. Other than having a soapy taste (I'm VERY sensitive),  I found out Evian was a problem for me because it is a heavy, mineralized water. I was later informed by some scientists that the molecule is too large for the cells to absorb. Later when I began my skincare practice I began to seriously delve into water research after noticing the distinctive effects of reverse osmosis, spring, distilled, frequency, carbon filtered, alkaline and other waters on people and their skin.  For instance those who drank reverse osmosis water (generally at work in their offices) seemed to be more prone to getting sick frequently, had a lack of energy and all around dry skin issues. I found out later it's because reverse osmosis water is acidic and can rob the body of vital minerals. Sadly most bottled water these days is reverse osmosis water. During this research I would h...
