DRY SKIN AND WRINKLES

Image
You're probably thinking what does a car have to do with dry skin and wrinkles? We'll get there, but first I'm going to begin with a spotlight on beauty consumer advocate Paula Begoun and what she has to say about dry skin and wrinkles. Paula is a veteran of the beauty industry that has been breaking down and educating consumers on beauty so that we can make more informed choices and get past the smoke and mirrors of advertising. I love the article she did on dry skin and wrinkles. You should check out her article HERE . She talks about how the number one reason for wrinkled skin is sun damage, not lack of moisture. A test to show how the sun effects how you age is to take the armpit and compare the quality of your armpit skin to your face. We used to measure our client's sun damage in the arm pit with a machine called the Beau Visage as armpits are obviously one of those areas that rarely get any sun. Paula also brings up a good point that dry skin does not mean wrink...

BEAUTY SCAMS AND CLAIMS

Image
The other day an old client of mine that moved to another part of the country sent me an ad (not the one pictured above) about a product that claimed to be the next biggest thing and wanted to know what I thought of it. She happens to be a master photo retoucher. Dr. Oz endorsed the product, "Demi Moore was using it" and the ad boasted several impressive before and after clinical photos. The molecules are too large to penetrate and affect any moisture below the top, dead layer of skin (epidermis). The Dermis (lowest skin layer) is where the cells really need the moisture to help them function better. Hya...

ARE CANDLES CAUSING YOU DROWSINESS AND FATIGUE?

Image
photo credit Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images; Courtesy: Archipelago Botanicals It's holiday season and candles could be one of the biggest gifting items. Who can go wrong with a candle right? Well maybe not so right. Candles can be pretty toxic substances. Even the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and American Lung Association have acknowledged it. The waxes are usually made of Paraffin (gasoline byproduct which causes that soot), the wicks are made of lead and don't even get me started with the synthetic fragrances. Best case scenario you end up being drowsy and fatigued by your candles. Worst case you end up with kidney damage, nervous system disorders or reproductive issues. You can read more about the toxicity of candles at http://www.care2.com/greenliving/are-scented-candles-making-you-sick.html#ixzz2mTXbvvJE Perhaps Rihanna is aware of the health effects burning paraffin candles have, which is why she opts for soy candles. According to E! online Rihanna requires Arc...
