DO BEAUTY OILS MOISTURIZE?

(video coming) Uh, NO! I'm still completely baffled by the exploding trend of beauty oils on the market. The human body is 50-70% water depending on who you source. If you pour a cup of oil into a gallon of water the oil will rise to the top correct? If you pour a gallon of water into a container first and then pour in the cup of oil, the oil will still rise to the top right? So if we're mostly made of water and oil sits on top of the skin where does the moisture come into play? In fact, if your body/skin is dehydrated or lacking moisture/water then oil will only seal in existing moisture. OILS DO NOT MOISTURIZE. What's worse is if your skin is dry and you add oil to your skin it will create the perfect breeding ground for acne-promoting bacteria. Oil will help clog the dry skin and debris into pores. When you're much older and don't have to worry about hormones this is less of a worry, but the best thing to do is use either shea butter (whipped) or an emulsion/oil-...

LASH EXTENSIONS 101

Image
I'm not sure why it took me over ten years to discuss lash extensions, but thanks to some recent press inquiries I have decided it was time to discuss and address a few different things about lash extensions to set the record straight. I'm only going to hit the highlights as there is plenty of information on the internet. What I am publishing here is my experience of lash extensions after 10+ years and over 25,000 applications. WHAT ARE LASH EXTENSIONS? Rather than tell you what they are I thought it would be better to SHOW you what they are. I only personally use .10-.15mm wide and 6-11mm long lashes. Anything longer or thicker can cause long-term damage (at least for the customers I see in New York City. My CA customers might be able to handle 12mm). WHY GET LASH EXTENSIONS? There are dozens of reasons why one should get lash extensions. The most important thing to keep in mind is lash extensions are an upgrade from mascara. If you want a more dramatic lash then the next best...

STRESS, AGING and THE POWER TO OVERCOME IT

Image
Since 2008 I have seen some of my customers age almost twice as fast as they once used to. I feel like the population as a whole is getting older faster and more and more people I know of all ages are getting cancer. The Platinum Lift service at Beauty By Mary Schook as seen in Vogue would work magic and last! The machine still is magical and is in high demand, but for some customers it's A LOT more difficult to achieve an effect than it used to be. It seems the effect of the treatment on both old and new customers with high stress levels may not be as long-lasting causing me to have to really pull out other tricks to get the effect I once did with just the Platinum alone. I see the same problem with facelifts and eye jobs. They're not lasting on people like they used to in the past (and not because people are less stretched or pulled than before). The biggest things that have changed since 2008 are stress levels, technology and higher consumption of processed food/lack of nutr...
