MAJOR SECRET CAUSE OF DRY SKIN AND ACNE

Image
by mary schook Over the last few years I have seen acne skyrocket with people that never suffered with it as teenagers. Letters come in to me from all around the world asking me to help them get rid of it. While hormones, lack of sleep and poor diet are big contributors to acne, the water you shower with could be the big silent culprit in the battle against acne. Hard water is one of the big reasons spots build on your dishes in the dishwasher. The soap never really gets a chance to fully foam up and do its job and is difficult to rinse off. The same happens with your skin. Dirt and soap accumulate on top of the skin and in the pores with the help of a hot shower (steam). How water effects your skin and hair isn't news. Shannon Doherty from the old Beverly Hills 90210 tv drama was reported to ONLY wash her hair with Evian water resulting in ultra shiny hair. Bottled water was so unheard of and such a luxury in the 90's, but she was definitely on to something. It's a secret ...

SHRINKING PORES

Image
Enlarged pores are usually a bi-product of aging or even just dry skin. As we age our collagen loosens and relaxes causing the pores to enlarge. Generally the first culprit is sun damage. Sun breaks down the collagen causing the skin to lose its elasticity. The video attached explains another reason why pores become more visible, but heed my words: there is NO product out there that shrinks pores. There are products that can irritate skin and puff it up or fill up the pores with silicone making them appear smaller, but they will not actually shrink the pores. The key to "shrinking pores" is to find a way to strengthen collagen with products such as internal and external vitamin C. Vitamin C is crucial to collagen production. Amino acids only found in meat make up 30% of our collagen, which also means it is crucial to collagen production. Should your pores get out of control with blackheads, find a reputable dermatologist or facialist that you can see periodically to release d...

SUNBURNS AND AGING

Image
It's vacation time for most of us around the world. Who wants to think about applying their sunscreen with UVA protection (the one that matters the most) every two hours??? Many times we wait for a sunburn to signal it's time to get out of the sun. Hey, what harm is a little sunburn. We get a little red, sometimes peel and then it goes away. What most people don't realize is the second our skin gets burned, our DNA has changed (how our cells function) FOREVER! This DNA damage from the sun weakens the function of the cell. As things slow down as we age they make us prone to cellular imbalances or disfunction. Some like to call this cancer. Check out this great article that gives more details about what scientists discovered about cancer, aging and the sun HERE. I have listed a few unconventional methods I have mentioned before that one can do outside of sunblock to help prevent this cellular damage. TOPICALLY 1. Hydrate Make sure your skin is always hydrated. Shea butter is...

DO BEAUTY OILS MOISTURIZE YOUR SKIN?

(VIDEO COMING SOON) by Mary Schook There is a huge trend going on in beauty at the moment. It's all about the beauty oils! Hundreds of them have launched in the "Natural" category alone. It's almost dizzying. Oil used to be so taboo for so many years because it was comedogenic, meaning causes comedones or breakouts. Generally oils that were used in beauty products were comprised of mineral oil, which means you might as well be putting gasoline on your face. Mineral oil is a by-product of petroleum! Fast forward to the present, Consumers are more educated than ever about the ingredients in their products (especially with the rise of breast cancer and other health concerns). This phenomenon is a result of information made easily available upon the internet. While oils and their ingredients change and and improve, physics and the chemistry in our bodies stay the same. Oil repels water. If you don't already have water or moisture in the skin, oil is not going to add m...
