ACNE MAKEUP DO'S AND DON'TS FOR ANY SEASON

Image
by Mary Schook This week I'm dedicating my Tuesday Tip to Tanya. Let's just say she put some perspective on what you guys might benefit from in my posts. HOW DO MOST PEOPLE COVER THEIR ACNE? When it comes to Acne one of the first things that people try to do is take some sort of foundation or cover up and a sponge to conceal the pimples/acne. This step alone is wrong in SO many ways. Continue to read along to understand why. There is a video that went viral on youtube (9,000,000+ hits) where a young model showed how she was able to transform her skin with LAYERS of primers, foundations, concealers, and powders. She did a very nice job covering her severely oily and acneic skin, but her battle is going to be endless because she is compounding the problem each and every day she makes up her face. WHAT SHE DID RIGHT The YouTuber created a barrier between her and her makeup with a primer. While primers can damage the skin, the particle sizes are usually too large to clog it or al...

CHANGES YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUTUBE!

Yes, I know this is not a beauty tip. Then again it's not Tuesday either, but I decided this information was important enough to post especially for those of us that provide YouTube content. You're welcome!

EATING YOUR WAY TO CLEAR SKIN

Image
by mary schook IT ALL ABOUT GOOD BACTERIA Your gut has a very delicate balance of bacteria and when that bacteria is off from stress, eating sugar, too many processed foods or taking antibiotics, the first place for it to show up is on your skin. In particular when the intestinal system is off it appears as pimples or acne on the chin or around the hollows of the cheeks. The jawline is usually hormonal. If breakouts are around the forehead the cause is different and usually from dehydration or pore-clogging personal care products. KOREANS HAVE THE BEST SKIN! The Koreans have nearly perfect skin. What is their secret? Kimchi. Kimchi is basically fermented vegetables with various spices. There are hundreds of ways to make Kimchi. Food.com has a recipe you can play around with HERE. FERMENTED FOODS ARE ALL BENEFICIAL I first got into Kimchi when I found out that it had the potential to help detoxify pesticides. Many fermented foods like Kefir, Tempeh and Miso all supply beneficial bacte...

Oily hair? Problem solved!

Image
Summer time is here!  Okay, now here comes all the worries of dealing with oily hair, as the weather has once again shifted into a new season which leads to a need of change in our regimens. Hair is a precious beauty asset that demands special care. So why not get started by adding some of these simple masks to our regimen that will help you maintain healthy looking hair, even in the warm season?  Whether you have naturally oily hair or it reacts to this season, this post is here to help you.  Why does our hair tend to become so oily and unattractive? Most of the time it is simply caused by frequent exposure to dust and dirt and/or overactive oil glands. Even over brushing can be the culprit, so if you are one that always wants every hair in a specific place, try to cut down on using a ...

SKINCARE MYTHS

Image
by Mary Schook A lot of what I believe and practice with my clients (who get RESULTS if they are patient and follow the rules) is not very popular or even discussed amongst doctors, derms or even beauty companies UNTIL NOW. This past weekend while working on the computer I couldn't help but to notice a yahoo feature ad with Carrie Underwood saying it was a myth that hot water opens the pores. I couldn't have been more thrilled to see that P&G, who owns Olay (formerly Oil of Olay), was educating the public about things that I have been preaching, posting and tweeting about for MANY years now. I never usually pay attention or EVER click through ads online, but Carrie Underwood saying hot water doesn't do anything instantly drew me in like a moth to a flame (I apologize for the generic idiom)! The reason I was so happy to see this is because a few weeks back I posted about steam and heat being bad for the skin because it breaks down the collagen. I can't tell you how m...

DIET AND SUN DAMAGE

Image
by mary schook The images have gone viral. All of the sudden people are posting photos of a trucker's face who obviously got more sun on one side than the other for 28 years. Check out the viral article and photos HERE. I still believe most of this comes down to diet. If you have a trucker's diet you're going to be more prone to the effects of the sun. This is not a theory. It is a fact. A diet that is deficient in antioxidants and fresh whole foods and high in fat leads to oxidation and free radicals, which can cause cancer and increase cellular death. Did you know in tropical countries where there is sun is virtually 24/7, the incidences of skin cancer are almost non-existent? It's not because darker skin is less prone to skin cancer. In fact in the US African Americans are some of the fastest growing skin cancer groups. You can read more fascinating facts HERE. Keep in mind I was both a lifeguard and a sun baby. Baby oil and iodine. I took in a lot of sun even i...

LOWER BELLY FAT

by mary schook We've all heard the commercials about cortisol and the effects it has on belly fat. Even though this trainer's remedy is for skin whitening it is also very anti-inflammatory. Check it out and tell me what you think! By the way I couldn't find the licorice cream unless you tap into some of the eye creams out there, but the licorice body oil listed below on amazon could be mixed with any cream! Cheers!
